Oil painting on canvas entitled 'Dugald Shankland (1820-1909), Provost of Greenock, 1885-1889' by William Drummond Young (1855 Glasgow - 1924 Edinburgh). Unsigned and undated. The painting shows a half-length portrait of an elderly bearded man wearing the Provost of Greenock robes and holding papers in his left hand, looking directly at the viewer. This painting was presented to Dugald Shankland on his retiral after thirty years service by Burgh of Greenock Town Council in 1896. Dugald Shankland (1820-1909), served as Provost of Greenock from 1893 to 1896. |
