Mid nineteenth century builder's half hull ship model on a wooden backing board of the sv 'Lahloo' a composite construction tea clipper built by Robert Steel & Co., Greenock in 1867. Rigged with Cunningham Patent Self-Reefing Topsails, she was launched on Tuesday, 23 July 1867. Her owner was Alexander Rodger & Co Glasgow and her master was Captain John Smith. on the 31-07-1872 the vessel was wrecked on Sandalwood Island in the Sunda Islands while sailing to London from Shanghai with tea. Her captain was cleared of all blame. Tragically, two years later, he and his entire crew perished on a new ship, another clipper, the MAJU, when it was wrecked on the Western Isles. |
