Description |
Copper line engraving on paper entitled 'Greenock from the South East' after a painting by John Fleming (1792 Glasgow - 1845 Greenock) and engraved by Joseph Swan (1796 Glasgow - 1872 Glasgow). The work shows a view of Greenock from the south east with harbours and river beyond. Figures in foreground right and trees in foreground left. The engraving was reproduced in Swan's "Strath-clutha or The Beauties of the Clyde and was also used as the frontispiece to Weir's 'History of Greenock' (1829) and appeared again in "Select Views on the River Clyde" (1830). |
