Lithograph cartoon after a watercolour by William Niven (1890 Greenock - 1947 Greenock). Undated. The subject is Sir Archibald Sinclair (1890-1970). Signed at the lower right 'Scoticus'. Originally published in The Scottish Field in March 1936. The name 'Scoticus' was used by William Niven for his work as a cartoonist for The Scottish Field, the series of cartoons being known as 'Potted Scots', featuring well known Scottish figures of the day. This work was published as No.13 in the series. |
