Description |
Wooden plaque in the form of a shield painted in green paint bearing the inscription 'Princes Pier 1893' in white paint. This plaque marks the year in which the Princes Pier Railway Station, an outstanding railway terminus complex on the Firth of Clyde at Greenock, was built for the Glasgow & South Western Railway Company. The grand scale of the terminal buildings was to enable the station to cope with the great number of passengers during the summer season when holiday makers travelling 'doon the water' emerged form the station to join paddle steamers taking them to Rothesay, Dunoon, Helensburgh and other Clyde resorts. |
