Description |
Hand bell with a brass body and wooden handle (cracked), the original button which was mounted on the top of the handle is now missing, the metal bell section is engraved with a poem beginning: 'Ten months I lay beneath the waves Submerged in the Comet's wreck Where ninety-five souls found their graves Swept in a moment from her deck My t--- was o' her Engine made My handle from her Table and The Button that adorned my head was worn by Captain Sutherland Ye who this mournful relic read Say do you hear that warning cry? Slow-go - sounding from the dead In time of health prepare to die. Jas. Mains, Gourock' |
