Political cartoon drawing in pen and ink on paper by William Niven (1890 Greenock -1947 Greenock). Undated and untitled by the artist. Signed at the lower right 'WN'. The original context is unknown but may refer was the repeal of the betting tax. The scene shows a racecourse with the public shown as sheep ready to be fleeced by a bookmaker wearing a bowler hat and smoking a cigar. Intended for publication as a cartoon for The Bulletin and Scots Pictorial newspaper which was published in Glasgow between 1913 and 1960. |
