Description |
Nineteenth century brass ship's bell taken from the ship sv Atalanta mounted on a wooden stand. The Atatlanta was a cargo sailing ship built by Robert Duncan & Co Port Glasgow, yard No 215 with an iron hull and three masts. The ship was launched on Saturday, 31st January 1885 and was owned by Ninian Hill of Greenock. The vessel came to a disastrous end when its was wrecked on 18th November 1898 after striking a reef in Alsea Bay, 16 miles south of Newport, Oregon, USA. |
