Description |
Watercolour painting on paper entitled 'The Taproom of the Wagon and Horses Inn, Holyhead Road, Handsworth, Birmingham' by Paul Braddon (1864 Birmingham - 1937 Croydon). Signed 'Paul Braddon' by the artist at the lower right. The painting was probably painted in the early twentieth century. It is one a series of watercolour paintings showing scenes from the life of James Watt (1736-1819). This work shows a view of an inn interior with male figures seated, jugs and tankards on tables and a woman with tray and tankards. The Waggon and Horses Inn is where James Watt was the victim of industrial espionage when a rival overheard a conversation concerning Watt's invention of the crank. |
