Description |
Copper line engraving with hand colouring entitled 'Loch Fad and Kean's Cottage, Buteshire, from Bardarach Looking North' after a painting by John Fleming (1792 Glasgow - 1845 Greenock). The print shows a view of a loch with a group of spectators in the foreground, trees on the right and clouds on the left. Inscribed on bottom with title: 'Loch Fad and Kean's Cottage, Buteshire, from Bardarach Looking North', and 'Painted by John Fleming' and 'Engraved by Joseph Swan'. Loch Fad is a narrow loch about 2½ miles long on the Isle of Bute. On its western shore was a two-story house, Woodend or Kean's Cottage, built in 1827 by the tragedian Edmund Kean (1787-1833), and afterwards occupied by Sheridan Knowles (1784-1862). |
